Thanksgiving 2009

This Thanksgiving was a stress free one, which are the best Thanksgivings to have! On a normal Thanksgiving day we have to go to fifty different houses and eat fifty different times (I am exaggerating a little), but between my family and step-family and now my in-laws I have a very large family (which I love very much)!

My husband and I got up and I made breakfast for everyone. Then the kids and I put up the Christmas tree.

Hannah and Scott fight over who hangs the last ornament on the tree. The animals get involved. Sampson is very curious and Charlie has a real fascination with boxes as you can see.

And my husband does not really get into the holiday spirit as you can tell (but I love him anyway), however, he did help carry in some boxes.

In the evening we went over to my aunt's house! It was crowded and chaotic but great at the same time. My aunt Becky and Bonnie came in from Illinois and they brought Bonnie's son and his fiancee, and all their grandchildren. Even my Dad came. The food was great, the White Russians were equally as great, and the company was wonderful. My husband and I then came home childless (we decided to sneak out and leave them in all the chaos...JK). Hannah went with her cousins to see New Moon and Scott wanted to stay with our friend/neighbor Hunter. So Forrest and I went to bed, because we had to work on Friday!
All in all it was a great day off work, eating, and having fun with family!

Scott

My little boy, of course I use this term loosely because he is 11 years old now, is growing up. My son is very quiet and shy until you get to know him and then he can be a lot of fun. He has a very dry sense of humor and a cute smile. He has never really been interested in girls, until recently. He started a new school this year, he went from elementary school to middle school and from private school to public school, so two big transitions at once. He has handled it all very well. However, around the beginning of the year he started talking about his "friend". When he would talk about his "friend" he never mentioned that it was a girl. So one day I asked him all about his "friend". He said her name was Brianna and she was in his class. She had a face, hair, and eyes (good to know) but no real details about this young lady. Interesting that he would blush every time anyone mentioned her name. Well...Friday he brought me an invitation to a birthday party, it was a skating party. If you know me or my son you know that we are not the most coordinated people. And Scott does not roller skate! To my surprise he wanted to go and he even enlisted his sister to help him learn how to skate. Right after church on Sunday they planned to come home and start the training immediately. They were out in the cold in the driveway. Hannah was very patient and Scott had a hard time but he was determined and they plan to do another training session this week. TOO CUTE!

I have never seen him put so much energy into something that put him outside of his comfort zone. But I am very proud of him and I am eager to meet this Brianna to see if she is worthy of my son. ;)

Obsession

Anyone who knows me knows that I do not like to be controlled by anything or anyone. This is the reason I have never been drunk (to the point of being sick) or done drugs, I do not smoke, and my husband is very laid back. However, I am absolutely obsessed with the Twilight Saga. It drives me crazy. How on earth did Stephenie Meyer do it? Come up with such a story that so many people (mostly women, from very young girls to old grandmas) love.

My friends and I went to see New Moon at 12:01am Friday morning (we had to see it opening night). We even got tickets to see Twilight (my third time seeing it on the big screen) at 9pm before New Moon. We sat in a theater for 6 hours. Who does that? Well apparently I do, but I have never done that before. And then I had to see it again so I went the next day with another friend. I have to say that it was even more incredible the second time. I don't like being obsessed like this!

I have read all the books. I loved them! The only reason I have not picked them up to read again is because I don't want them to control my life. And they do...I eat, drink, and sleep these books when I read them. Nothing else matters. And my family has a bit of a problem with that (I wonder why?).

Anyway, now everyone knows what controls me. If only it was eating right and exercise instead of fictional characters... :)

Vacation Blues

My husband and I talked about how we never went to any concerts but we liked music. So I said, "Why don't you pick a concert you want to go to and we will go". Well...he would choose a concert that we had to go out of the state to see. However, it did sound nice to get away just the two of us, so I agreed.
We went to see Social Distortion at the House of Blues at Myrtle Beach. I got us a great deal at a hotel, he got the tickets, we found a place for the kids to stay, and someone to feed our animals about a month in advance. For anyone who has all those responsibilities you know that that is not always an easy thing to do.
Wednesday before the beach:
I got a call from my aunt, who was going to be watching the kids for the weekend, that her husband has the swine flu and she is running a fever. She said that hopefully they would both be fever free by the weekend but it would not hurt her feelings if I wanted to find someplace else for them to stay. Well I quickly did some damage control and called another aunt. And she said it would be fine for them to stay, my kids would have a blast at her house. Problem solved!
Friday Morning before the Beach:
My "other" aunt called and her husband had run a fever the night before and was not feeling well. But she said that he would be staying in his room the whole time and my kids should be safe. Well what other choice did I have? We had already spent the money and I didn't want to disappoint my husband who was so excited about seeing one of his favorite bands. So I just said I would call her in the morning to see how things looked.
Friday night before the beach:
My husband wanted to go to a high school football game and afterward we went to Taco Bell. To make a long story short we got into an argument and we did not speak for the rest of the night.
Saturday morning before the beach:
We planned to get up early and leave and we had not even packed the night before. So I got up really early and cleaned a little and got everybody ready to leave. We left in silence.
My aunt said that my uncle was feeling fine so we left our kids in her hands. And my husband and I drove in silence ALL the way to the beach (I mostly slept the whole way).
Saturday afternoon at the beach:
Upon arrival at the beach my husband is hungry so we go to eat at one of his favorite restaurants in Myrtle, Pat & Mike's Pub. While we are waiting on our food he gets a call, it is my step dad. To make another long story very short my step dad and I got into an argument over the phone. I was really upset by this point. However, this did break the ice between my husband and I and we started talking again and made up. A bright side :)
Later on that day:
I get a call from my friend/neighbor and the person feeding my animals that the spare key (that stays at her house all the time) to my house is in fact in my house (thank you Hannah). So she could not get in to check on the animals. Well by this point I could not help but to laugh. What else was going to go wrong? The concert is cancelled, the car breaks down, an unexpected storm comes up and there is flooding, the Apocalypse maybe? I told her just to break in somehow. So her husband came by with a drill and drilled the deadbolt on our garage door. But at least my animals were OK.
Saturday night:
We went to the concert! It was a lot of fun! No problems after that. What a crazy weekend! I was really happy to be back home again!

First Blog

I am not sure why I wanted to start a blog...maybe it was because my friend Rachael started one. She is such a great writer and when you read her stuff you are inspired to write also.

Maybe I wanted to start a blog to keep my thoughts organized, I do work full-time, I am married, I have two kids in middle school, a house to take care of, animals that need care and attention, and of course (like everyone else in the world) bills to pay. So very often my mind is overloaded.

Perhaps I wanted to start a blog so I could get my creative juices flowing. I have been toying with the idea of writing a book. I love fiction novels and would love to write one of my own someday. I am just waiting for that wonderful idea to come along so I can write the next classic...?

Whatever the reason for starting my blog I hope that everyone who reads it will enjoy it!

P.S. if someone reads something on my blog and does not like it...feel free to comment, but do not expect me to change it. This is my blog and my feelings and I will not alter them...
